Just for the Record cover

Just for the Record, released in 1993 on Rounder (CD 0306), is Dry Branch Fire Squad's eighth album for the label, produced by Ken Irwin at Sound Space Inc. in Yellow Springs, Ohio. The lineup pairs Ron Thomason on vocals, mandolin, and lead guitar with Suzanne Thomas on guitar, Dan Russell on banjo, steel, and vocals, Charles Leet on bass, and Mary Jo Leet on harmony vocals. The repertoire leans hard into traditional gospel and mountain bluegrass with Carter Stanley and A.P. Carter songs alongside a bluegrass reading of John Prine's "Unwed Fathers." The record falls midway through the band's long Rounder run and shows Thomason settling into the role of mountain-music tradition bearer that defined the second half of his career.
