King of the Dobro is a 1980 CMH Records album (CMH CD 8015) by resonator guitarist Josh Graves — cataloged here under the name Ben Greene, which appears to be a data error. Graves (1927–2006), born Burkett Graves in Tellico Plains, Tennessee, is widely credited with transforming the dobro from a novelty instrument into a full bluegrass lead voice. Joining Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs's Foggy Mountain Boys in 1955, he adapted Scruggs's three-finger banjo technique to the resonator guitar, giving the dobro a new vocabulary that every subsequent player has built upon. The CMH recordings document his solo work following the Flatt & Scruggs split in 1969 and demonstrate the full command of an instrument he spent two decades redefining.
