Legends and Tall Tales presents Hylo Brown, one of the most powerful and underappreciated voices in bluegrass history. Born Frank Brown in 1922 in River, Kentucky, Hylo Brown possessed a high, clear tenor with exceptional range that drew comparisons to Bill Monroe's own singing. After working with the Lonesome Pine Fiddlers, Brown formed Hylo Brown and the Timberliners and recorded for Capitol Records beginning in 1954, producing a body of work that influenced subsequent generations of singers. This 2015 release reflects continued interest in an artist whose commercial moment was limited but whose musical contribution was substantial.
