Letters from My Father is a 2001 Rounder Records album (11661-0491-2) by Virginia vocalist Ginny Hawker, produced by Dirk Powell and recorded at Trace Sound in Franklin, Tennessee. Hawker, rooted in Sacred Harp singing and Appalachian old-time tradition, assembled an all-star roots ensemble: Darrell Scott on guitar and resonator guitar, Tim O'Brien on mandolin and acoustic guitar, Ron Stewart on guitar, Powell on piano, Dennis Crouch on bass, and Kenny Malone on drums. The sixteen-track program — a tribute to Hawker's father Ben Hawker's musical influence — draws on traditional mountain songs, gospel, and old-time material. Note: the catalog lists Darrell Scott as the primary artist, but this is a Ginny Hawker album; Scott serves as a sideman and harmony vocalist.
