Love, Lost and Found cover

Love, Lost and Found was released by Rebel Records on 24 March 2009 as REB-CD 1829, the first Lost & Found CD in seven years. Rebel calls it the last recording to feature the band’s mandolin player Dempsey Young, who had been in the group since its founding in Ferrum, Virginia, in 1973 and died in 2006. Seven of its thirteen songs were recorded with Young in 2003, among them his remake of “A Daisy a Day,” a song that was also on the band’s first album, First Time Around (Outlet, 1975). Scott Napier, who joined the band in 2007, plays mandolin on the rest, which were finished in 2008.

Allen Mills plays bass and sings lead, Ronald Smith plays banjo and Scottie Sparks guitar, and both sing. The album was recorded by Otis Lynn Dillon at River Track Studio in Fort Gay, West Virginia, and mastered by David Glasser at Airshow in Boulder, Colorado. Mills re-recorded his song “If Today Was the Last Day,” also from the first album, in a new key so that he could sing lead. Sparks sings “Letter Stained in Blue,” written by Dan Wells, and Mills sings “That’s What Country Folks Do,” written by Wanda Dalton and recorded in February and March 2008. The set also includes “Pretty Roses Remind Me of You” and an instrumental waltz medley.
