Marching Home, Balsam Range's 2007 debut album, introduced a western North Carolina quintet that would become one of the more consistent presences on the IBMA competition and festival circuit. The group, featuring Buddy Melton on fiddle and lead vocals, Marc Pruett on banjo, Darren Nicholson on mandolin, Tim Surrett on bass and Dobro, and Caleb Smith on guitar, brought a polished ensemble sound and strong vocal blend to material moving between original songs and traditional repertoire. The debut announced a band with the technical foundation and interpersonal chemistry to sustain a long career.
