Music From Rancho Deville, released in 2001 on Acoustic Disc (ACD 44), is a posthumous Charles Sawtelle album assembled from sessions Sawtelle recorded at his Rancho deVille home studio outside Boulder while fighting the leukemia he had battled since 1993. He died in March 1999. Laurie Lewis co-produced the finished record with David Grisman serving as executive producer. The guest list runs to roughly thirty-five players, including Hot Rize bandmates Tim O'Brien, Nick Forster, and Pete Wernick, plus Peter Rowan, Norman Blake, Jerry Douglas, Grisman, Sam Bush, Vassar Clements, Michael Doucet, Richard Greene, Tom Rozum, Todd Phillips, and Flaco Jiménez. The repertoire ranges across bluegrass, old-time, Tex-Mex, Carter Family, Stanley Brothers, and Woody Guthrie — a tribute to Sawtelle's musical breadth and the community he'd built around it.
