My Dixie Home (Sugar Hill SUG-CD 3951) is a banjo album by Jim Mills, released on 8 October 2002. Mills was at the time playing with Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder. He produced the album, which was recorded in May 2002 at Hilltop Studios in Madison, Tennessee, with Steve Chandler engineering and mixing.
The core band is Mills on banjo, Dan Tyminski on guitar, Stuart Duncan on fiddle and Barry Bales on bass. Mandolin changes from track to track: Adam Steffey plays on seven of the twelve, Ricky Skaggs on the title song and “Little at a Time,” and Tim O’Brien on “Tragic Romance” and “Country Blues.” Skaggs and O’Brien also sing lead on their own tracks, Tyminski leads “Are You Waiting Just for Me” and “Goin’ Back to the Blue Ridge Mountains,” Paul Brewster sings tenor on both of those and lead on “Will You Be Satisfied,” and Tyminski takes the tenor on “Little at a Time.” The closing “I’ll See You in My Dreams” has Mills on banjo and guitar with fiddle and bass.
The program draws on songs and tunes by Andrew Jenkins, Dock Boggs, Ernest Tubb, Jimmie Skinner and Ralph Stanley, among others, and includes “Black Jack” (J.D. Crowe and Doyle Lawson), “It’s Rainin’ Here This Morning” (Grandpa Jones) and “Sledd Ridin’” (Dale Sledd and Sonny Osborne). Five of the twelve tracks are instrumentals.
