My Own Set of Rules cover

My Own Set of Rules, released in 2009 on Rural Rhythm (RHY-CD 1051), is Lou Reid and Carolina's first Rural Rhythm record, recorded and mastered at Eastwood Studios in Cana, Virginia, and self-produced by Reid. The lineup pairs Reid on mandolin and lead vocals with Shannon Slaughter on guitar and harmony, Reid's wife Christy on bass and harmony, and Trevor Watson on banjo and harmony, with Ron Stewart guesting on fiddle. The arrangements are modern progressive-leaning traditional bluegrass with strong three-part harmonies built around the Reid husband-wife duets. The record marked Reid's reset of Carolina after his second departure from Seldom Scene, and his settled identity as a contemporary bandleader after long stretches as a sideman to others through the 1980s and 90s.
