Nashville Blues, released by Rounder Records in 1984 (0188), brings Norman Blake to the Delmore Brothers song that gives the album its title alongside a broader selection of traditional country, bluegrass, and Blake originals. Nancy Blake and Peter Ostroushko are among the players supporting Norman, who produced the album himself with Paul Muffson assisting on the mix. The program includes Columbus Stockade Blues, the older folk ballad My Name Is Morgan (But It Ain't J.P.), the train song The Streamlined Cannonball, and the Hazel Dickens song Pretty Bird — material chosen with Blake's careful curatorial sense for the old-time and early-country canon. By 1984 Blake's Rounder catalog had become one of the most consistent bodies of acoustic-traditional work being released.
