Old Dirt Road cover

Old Dirt Road is the first album by Shenandoah Drive, a Virginia band made up of Danny Seabolt (guitar, lead vocals), Chris King (banjo, tenor vocals), Dave Kirk (mandolin, baritone vocals) and Gary Creed (bass, bass vocals), with Mason Wright guesting on fiddle. Bluegrass Today announced the twelve-track CD in August 2011. It was recorded at Eastwood Studio in Cana, Virginia, and mixed and mastered at Mountain Fever Records.

Seabolt wrote or co-wrote seven of the twelve songs. They include “Runnin’ for the Border,” a song about murder and escaping the law, and the gospel number “Ready to Go,” written with Jimmy McQuinn, which opens with an a cappella chorus. The remaining material comes from other writers: Carter Stanley’s “Our Last Goodbye,” the Osborne Brothers’ “Lonesome Feeling,” “Henry Walker” from Del McCoury, the McPeak Brothers’ “Back to Dixie,” which opens the album, and Shannon Slaughter’s “Lonesome Wind.”

In a January 2012 review, John Curtis Goad wrote that the four members all sing, with the gospel songs in four-part harmony, and that listeners might recognise the players from the Hazel River Band, the Navy bluegrass band Dixie Almanac and the Country Gentlemen.
