One More for the Road (Sugar Hill SUG-CD 4057) was released on 22 September 2009. It is Adam Steffey’s second solo CD, following Grateful in 2001, and it was produced by Barry Bales and Gary Paczosa. Steffey plays mandolin and mandola and sings lead on most of the vocals; Ronnie Bowman sings harmony on several of them, and Chris Stapleton adds harmony on the title song.

The rhythm section changes by song. Dan Tyminski plays guitar on “Don’t Lie to Me,” “Let Me Fall,” “A Broken Heart Keeps Beatin’” and “What Gives You the Right” with Ron Stewart on banjo, while Clay Hess and Ron Block take the guitar and banjo chairs on others; Stuart Duncan or Ron Stewart plays fiddle, Randy Kohrs plays resonator guitar on several tracks, and Barry Bales is on bass throughout. Alison Krauss sings lead on “Warm Kentucky Sunshine,” a song of the Bluegrass Cardinals, with Tyminski on harmony. Four tracks are instrumentals: “Deep Rough,” “Durang’s Hornpipe,” “Half Past Four” and “Barnyard Playboy.” Steffey’s wife, Tina Steffey, plays clawhammer banjo on “Durang’s Hornpipe.”

Reviewers noted the traditional side of the program, such as Red Allen’s “Don’t Lie to Me,” alongside a more modern sound.
