One Stop Along the Road

Amanda Cook

Album · 2014 · self-released

One Stop Along the Road is Amanda Cook’s first solo album, released independently in October 2014. It was recorded at Root Note Studios in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and produced by Brandon Bostic and Clint Wilson, with resonator-guitar overdubs by Randy Kohrs recorded in Nashville and the mix done by Wilson in Valdosta, Georgia. Cook signed with Mountain Fever Records in early 2017.

Bostic and Wilson play guitar and sing harmony, joined by Kalyn Wilson, Melonie Cannon and Tina Adair on harmony vocals. Ashby Frank plays mandolin, Brandon Godman fiddle, and Austin Ward electric bass; the banjo parts are shared among Aaron McDaris, Clint Wilson, Mike Blanton and, on one song, Becky Bostic playing clawhammer. Randy Kohrs plays resonator guitar on five songs.

Cook sings lead throughout, on twelve tracks that include Mary Chapin Carpenter’s “When Halley Came to Jackson,” Fred Rose’s “I’m Satisfied with You,” Roy Acuff’s “Do You Wonder Why,” the McReynolds brothers’ “Pardon Me,” and Cliff Carnahan’s “Ocean of Diamonds.” The closing track, “I Surrender All,” is a hymn, with Cook accompanied by Brandon Bostic on guitar alone.
