Ashby Frank
Ashby Frank is a North Carolina-bred mandolinist, lead singer, and songwriter who performed with Bill Monroe at age 11, won the 1999 MerleFest mandolin competition, and now records for Mountain Home Music Company — the 2024 IBMA Instrumental Recording of the Year for his Terry Baucom tribute "Knee Deep In Bluegrass."
- Born 1983; raised in Tyro, near Lexington, North Carolina; based in Nashville, Tennessee.
- Began on guitar, switched to mandolin at age 10; performed with Bill Monroe at Bell Cove Club in Hendersonville, TN at age 11 (1994).
- Won 1st place in mandolin at MerleFest 1999 at age 16; released debut album "First Crossing" that year.
- Member of Special Consensus from 2007–2009.
- Also performed and recorded with Mashville Brigade, The Likely Culprits, The Earls of Leicester, John Cowan's HercuLeons, Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper, the Marty Raybon Band, Mountain Heart, and The Darrell Brothers comedy act.
- Records as a solo artist for Mountain Home Music Company; released "Leaving is Believing" in 2022.
- Won the 2024 IBMA Instrumental Recording of the Year for "Knee Deep In Bluegrass," a Terry Baucom tribute.
- Songwriter whose songs have been cut by Junior Sisk, Lonesome River Band, and Dale Ann Bradley.
