Pieces of the Sky is the 1975 debut album by Emmylou Harris released on Reprise Records (MS 2213) and produced by Brian Ahern. Harris (vocals, acoustic guitar) arrives with a fully realized sound assembled from players who would become her Hot Band: Glen D. Hardin (piano), Emory Gordy Jr. (bass), Herb Pedersen (banjo, harmony vocals), Bernie Leadon (guitar, mandolin), Amos Garrett (guitar), Joe Carr (pedal steel), James Burton (electric guitar), and John Ware (drums)—a larger ensemble than the catalog's five-member personnel list reflects. "Boulder to Birmingham"—written after Gram Parsons's death—and a cover of the Louvin Brothers' "If I Could Only Win Your Love" announced Harris as the foremost voice in country-rock classicism and gave her a commercial breakthrough on both the country and pop charts.
