Poor Leroy’s Almanack cover

Poor Leroy's Almanack (Spring Fed Records, 2011) is a recording from the Tennessee Mafia Jug Band, the loosely organized ensemble centered on Leroy Troy — a Goodlettsville, Tennessee entertainer and champion of the comic and dance-music traditions of rural Tennessee. Recorded at the Butcher Shoppe in Nashville with engineer David "Fergie" Ferguson, the album draws on jug band and old-time repertoire that Troy has performed throughout his career at the Grand Ole Opry and on the folk festival circuit. Peter Ostroushko, Moondi Klein, Shad Cobb, Mike Armistead, Andy Todd, and Dan Kelly contribute to a session that prizes informal energy and entertainment value. Troy's performing persona sits in the tradition of the comic rural entertainer — a lineage running from Uncle Dave Macon through Nashville's comedy circuit — and the album reflects that commitment to entertainment as an expression of the tradition rather than a departure from it.
