Postcards of the Hanging is a 2002 compilation on Arista/BMG Heritage presenting live recordings by the Grateful Dead performing songs by Bob Dylan. The Dead played Dylan's material throughout their career, and this set gathers performances drawn from 1973 through 1990—featuring Jerry Garcia (guitar, vocals), Bob Weir (guitar, vocals), Phil Lesh (bass, vocals), and various incarnations of the rhythm section and keyboard lineup. Tracks span "Desolation Row," "She Belongs to Me," "Maggie's Farm," "Ballad of a Thin Man," and "When I Paint My Masterpiece," charting the band's decades-long engagement with the Dylan catalog. Note: the catalog lists only Weir, Garcia, and Lesh; the full ensemble varies considerably across the source recordings by era.
