The Blue Sky Boys' Presenting the Blue Sky Boys, released on Capitol Records (T-2483 mono / ST-2483 stereo) in 1966, is the duo's first studio LP in the modern sense—their comeback album after fifteen years in retirement. Bill Bolick plays guitar and sings; Earl Bolick, mandolin and harmony, in the unaccompanied brother-duo format unchanged from their 1930s Bluebird and RCA recordings. The session was recorded in California during the brothers' appearance at the 1964 UCLA Folk Festival, where a folk revival audience received them as living masters of an older close-harmony tradition. A 1976 JEMF reissue (JEMF-104) broadened their audience further. The record documents their unadorned style at its most essential: two voices, two strings, no band.
