Ragged but Right is a live album by the Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band, released in 2010 (Jerry Garcia Family, JGCD 1003) from concerts recorded in 1987 at the Lunt-Fontanne, Wiltern and Warfield theatres. It was assembled from performances that the band had not previously released.
Jerry Garcia and David Nelson play guitar, Sandy Rothman mandolin, Kenny Kosek fiddle and John Kahn acoustic bass, with David Kemper on snare drum. Garcia, Nelson and Rothman sing together throughout. The fifteen tracks, including a spoken band introduction, take in “Short Life of Trouble,” “Trouble in Mind,” “Drifting with the Tide,” “Deep Elem Blues,” “If I Lose,” “Bright Morning Star,” “Goodnight Irene” and the title song. Garcia and Rothman had previously played together in the 1964 bluegrass band the Black Mountain Boys; Rothman also wrote the album’s liner notes with Steve Silberman.
