Red on Blonde is an album of thirteen Bob Dylan songs by Tim O’Brien, released on 18 June 1996 by Sugar Hill Records (SHCD-3853). The title plays on Dylan’s 1966 Blonde on Blonde and on Red Knuckles, the alter ego O’Brien used in Hot Rize. O’Brien produced it, and it was recorded at Polygram Studios in Nashville.

The songs include “Masters of War,” “Oxford Town,” “Lay Down Your Weary Tune,” “Subterranean Homesick Blues,” “Maggie’s Farm,” “Senor (Tales of Yankee Power),” “Everything Is Broken” and “Man Gave Names to All the Animals.” O’Brien sings and plays mandolin, fiddle and bouzouki, with guitarist Scott Nygaard and Mark Schatz on bass, banjo and body percussion. Charlie Cushman (banjo), Steve Cohn (accordion), Jerry Douglas (Hawaiian guitar, resonator guitar and lap steel), Mark Graham (harmonica) and Larry Atamanuik (drums) are also credited. Schatz sings alongside O’Brien, and the vocal group includes Kathy Mattea, Mollie O’Brien, Glenn Zankey, Bob Tyler and Celeste Krenz.
