Rock My Soul (Sugar Hill SH-3717, 1981) was the first gospel album by Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver. Lawson formed the band in 1979, after almost eight years with the Country Gentlemen, and its debut LP, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver (Sugar Hill 3708), had been a secular record. This one was cut by the original lineup: Lawson on mandolin, Jimmy Haley on guitar, Terry Baucom on banjo and Lou Reid on bass, with Bobby Hicks as special guest on fiddle. All four band members sing. The album was recorded at Bias Recording Studios in Springfield, Virginia, with Bill McElroy engineering.

Lawson is credited with the arrangements of the title song and “Sweet Chariot.” The thirteen tracks also include Bill Monroe’s “River of Death,” Luther Presley’s “I’ll Have a New Life,” Lucy E. Campbell’s “Jesus Gave Me Water,” Ila Knight’s “The Redeemed Are Coming Home” and “Angel Band.” The opening track, “On the Sea of Life,” credited to Bob Angel and T. S. Sloan, became one of Lawson’s most requested songs.

The same four musicians made the band’s second secular album, Quicksilver Rides Again, in 1982. Their second gospel record, Heavenly Treasures, followed in 1983 with Randy Graham on bass.
