Same Old Me

Donna Hughes

Album · 2003 · Running Dog 2003

Same Old Me is Donna Hughes’s second album, released in 2003 on her own Running Dog label after Somewhere in Time in 2001. All twenty-one songs on it are her own compositions.

One of them, “My Poor Old Heart,” was recorded by Alison Krauss and Union Station on their 2004 album Lonely Runs Both Ways. Hughes has said that a North Carolina radio station, WNCW in Spindale, played her songs, and that Union Station bassist Barry Bales heard them and called to ask for material; she mailed him sixty songs, and Krauss later decided to record one. Tony Rice, who was listening to Same Old Me at the home of friends, then proposed to produce her next record, Gaining Wisdom, issued by Rounder on 27 February 2007.
