Shine On (Rebel REB-CD 1810, 2005) is a gospel album from Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys, recorded at Maggard Sound Studios in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. Stanley's first full set of new gospel material in several years, the record ranges from traditional lined-out hymns — including "Why Should We Start and Fear to Die" — to Dolly Parton's title track to the familiar "I'll Fly Away." John Rigsby handles tenor throughout, with Ralph Stanley II, Nathan Stanley, James Allen Shelton, Steve Sparkman, and Jack Cooke completing the ensemble. Produced by Ralph Stanley II, the album captures the band in steady working form and represents a characteristic example of the Stanley gospel approach: stark, unsentimental, and shaped entirely by the old mountain church sound.
