Songs About Our Country (Old Dominion OD 498-08) is a studio album from Jim and Jesse McReynolds, the Coeburn, Virginia brothers whose sibling bluegrass partnership had sustained one of the genre's most celebrated performing careers since their Sims Valley Boys recordings of the late 1940s, presented on their own Old Dominion label with the ensemble that characterized their post-Capitol recording work. Jim McReynolds plays guitar and sings lead; Jesse McReynolds plays mandolin and sings; Vic Jordan plays banjo and sings; Allen Shelton plays banjo; Joe Meadows plays fiddle; and Keith McReynolds — the brothers' son — plays guitar. The program's patriotic and regional subject matter reflects the Old Dominion label's recurring interest in material connecting traditional country and bluegrass to the folk song tradition of the American South and Appalachian heartland.
