Sugar Plums: Holiday Treats from Sugar Hill (Sugar Hill SH-C 3796) is a various-artists Christmas collection released by Sugar Hill Records in 1991. It combines traditional carols with newer songs, played by acts including Tim O’Brien, Peter Rowan, Doc Watson, John Starling, Ranch Romance, the Seldom Scene, Robin & Linda Williams, the Bluegrass Cardinals and Jerry Douglas.
Peter Rowan’s “Christmas Time’s A-Coming” (credited to T. Logan) has Rowan on guitar and lead vocal, Alan O’Bryant on banjo and tenor, Sam Bush on mandolin, Stuart Duncan on fiddle, Jerry Douglas on dobro and baritone vocal, and Roy Huskey Jr. on bass. The Seldom Scene play “Silent Night” with Lou Reid singing lead, John Duffey on tenor and Mike Auldridge on baritone. Dan Crary plays “What Child Is This” on guitar with sleigh bells, and Jerry Douglas plays “Away in a Manger” on Weissenborn guitar. Tim O’Brien appears under his own name, with his sister Mollie O’Brien, and as Red Knuckles on “That White Christmas Song” with the Trailblazers.
