That Old Book of Mine (County CO-CD 2740) is a studio album from John Ray "Curly" Seckler, the Lincoln County, North Carolina mandolinist and vocalist who became one of the most familiar voices in the Flatt & Scruggs ensemble during their most commercially productive years and later pursued an extended solo career on County Records. Seckler plays mandolin and sings; Ron Stewart plays fiddle; Billy Edwards contributes instrumental work; Doyle Singer plays guitar and sings; and Jim Shaw holds the bass. The album's title — evoking scripture — signals the devotional material that occupies a central place in the program alongside the traditional bluegrass and country pieces Seckler had performed across six decades. County Records documented Seckler as part of their effort to preserve veteran performers working in the tradition outside the commercial mainstream.
