April Verch

Album · 2011 · Slab Town STR 11-01

That's How We Run (Slab Town Records STR 11-01, 2011) is a recording from April Verch, the Ontario-born step dancer, singer, and old-time fiddler who has been one of the most celebrated figures on the North American old-time and acoustic music circuit since her emergence in the mid-1990s. Verch — a multiple Canadian Open Old Time Fiddle Champion — releases music on her own Slab Town imprint, maintaining the artistic control appropriate to a performer who has cultivated a personal synthesis of Appalachian old-time, Canadian fiddle tradition, and step dancing that is distinctly her own. The album is a characteristic expression of that synthesis: fiddle-forward acoustic music rooted in the dance tradition, accessible to a broader listening audience than the fiddle-contest circuit alone, and shaped by decades of touring that have made Verch one of the form's most accomplished practitioners.
