The Blue Sky Boys' self-titled Rounder album, recorded in May 1975 at Starday Studios in Nashville and released on Rounder Records (0052) in 1976, is the duo's final studio recording—a valediction and, effectively, their second retirement. Bill Bolick plays guitar and sings; Earl Bolick, mandolin and harmony. These are all-new performances—not archival transfers—presenting material the brothers had long played but never previously committed to studio record. Rounder's platform in the traditional string-band and old-time revival community aligned the Bolicks with the scholarly and preservation-minded listeners who most valued their unvarnished close-harmony style. The album stands as their final word on a career that began with Bluebird in 1936.
