The Cleverlys (Grabbin' Cabin, self-released) is the debut album from the Cleverly family, the Mountain View, Arkansas comedy bluegrass act that built a national following through festival performances and viral video appearances presenting contemporary pop and classic rock songs in the full acoustic bluegrass ensemble format. Digger Cleverly plays banjo and sings; Harvey D Cleverly plays guitar and sings; Miles Cleverly plays dobro and sings; Otto Cleverly plays fiddle; and Vernon Dean Cleverly holds the bass. The ensemble's comedy persona — a fictional Ozark family with a deliberately backward stage identity — provides the vehicle for a bluegrass parody sensibility rooted in the same tradition of musical humor that runs from the Grand Ole Opry comedians through the Hee Haw era. The instrumentalists' technical facility with the bluegrass idiom makes the joke work on both levels simultaneously.
