The Lynn Morris Band's self-titled debut, released on Rounder Records in 1990, introduced a bandleader whose clear, expressive soprano and commitment to traditional bluegrass values would make her one of the most respected figures in the genre. Morris, who played banjo in addition to leading the vocal charge, assembled a band that included her partner Marshall Wilborn on bass, with the group favoring older material and the spare, direct approach of the classic era. Their cover of Buck Owens's 'My Heart Skips a Beat' illustrates the band's ability to find the bluegrass essence in country material without forcing it. The debut established the Lynn Morris Band as a serious participant in the Rounder Records stable of traditional acts.
