Lynn Morris is a Texas-born banjoist and lead vocalist who became the first woman to win the National Banjo Championship at Winfield (1974, then again in 1981) — a three-time IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year, IBMA Hall of Fame inductee (2021), and the first woman elected to the IBMA Board.

  • Born October 8, 1948 in San Antonio, Texas; raised in Lamesa, Texas.
  • First woman to win the National Banjo Championship at Winfield, Kansas (1974); won it again in 1981 — the only person ever to win it twice.
  • Founded the Lynn Morris Band in 1988 with husband Marshall Wilborn (bass), recording four acclaimed albums for Rounder Records.
  • Three-time IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year (1996, 1998, 1999).
  • Won IBMA Song of the Year in 1996 for "Mama's Hand."
  • First woman elected to the IBMA Board of Directors (1991).
  • Inducted into the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame in 2021; received the IBMA Distinguished Achievement Award in 2010.
  • Earlier work with Colorado's City Limits Bluegrass Band (co-founded 1972) and Whetstone Run (1980–1986); a 2003 stroke ended her active touring/playing career.
