You'll Never Be the Sun, released in 1999 on Rounder (CD 0458), is Lynn Morris's penultimate studio album, with the Chris Difford and Boo Hewerdine title-cut ballad anchoring a polished, song-driven trio-vocal set. Morris plays banjo and sings lead, with husband Marshall Wilborn on bass, Ron Stewart on banjo and fiddle, and Jesse Brock on mandolin, plus guests Claire Lynch singing harmony on "Hills of Alabam" and David McLaughlin appearing on "Twister." The record falls in the run that earned Morris three IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year awards (1996, 1998, 1999). Her catalog effectively closed with the next album, Shape of a Tear, in 2003: a stroke that year following surgery ended her singing career and forced her into retirement from bandleading.
