The Rice Brothers cover

The Rice Brothers (Rounder Records 0256, 1989) brings together four brothers — Tony, Larry, Wyatt, and Ron Rice — for a studio album combining their individual instrumental voices in a shared family project. Tony Rice plays guitar and sings lead; Larry Rice plays mandolin and sings; Wyatt Rice plays guitar; and Ron Rice plays bass. The album draws on the bluegrass and country traditions in which the brothers were raised, with Tony and Larry carrying the primary melodic and vocal weight across original songs and familiar material. The project is notable as one of the few recordings to document the entire Rice family playing together, and the warmth of the sessions reflects the longstanding musical relationship among siblings who had each pursued independent careers across bluegrass and acoustic music through the preceding two decades.
