The Touch of Time cover

The Touch of Time (Rural Rhythm RHY 1091, 2012) is the third album from Bill Emerson and Sweet Dixie on Rural Rhythm, following Southern (2010) and Eclipse (2011). Emerson — the veteran banjoist who spent years with the Country Gentlemen and accumulated decades of recordings across the Washington, D.C.–area bluegrass scene — is joined by Wayne Lanham on mandolin, Chris Stifel on guitar, Jenny Lee Obert on fiddle, and Teri Chism on bass. The album's substantial instrumental content showcases Emerson's banjo work alongside the ensemble's vocal program. His playing style is rooted in the East Coast traditional-progressive bluegrass of the Country Gentlemen era, and the Sweet Dixie configuration documents him in a late-career phase that maintains both the technical facility and the musical values he developed across decades with one of the genre's most celebrated regional outfits.
