The Troublemaker

Willie Nelson

Album · 1976 · Columbia

The Troublemaker is Willie Nelson’s gospel album, cut in New York in 1973 with Arif Mardin producing during his brief Atlantic tenure and shelved until Columbia released it in September 1976, after Red Headed Stranger had made him a star. The band is Willie’s own — Bobbie Nelson on piano, Bee Spears on bass, Paul English on drums, Jimmy Day on steel and dobro — with Doug Sahm on fiddle and Larry Gatlin, Sammi Smith and Doug Sahm singing behind him on hymns like “Uncloudy Day,” “In the Garden” and “Will the Circle Be Unbroken.”
