This World Is Not My Home is a Decca LP (DL 4360) by Jimmy Martin and the Sunny Mountain Boys, released in June 1963. Its twelve songs come from three sessions in Nashville. Nine were recorded at Columbia Recording Studio on 29 and 30 August 1962, with Martin on guitar, Paul Williams on mandolin, Bill Emerson on banjo and Joe Zinkan on bass, plus Kirk Hansard on drums for the 30 August titles. Two more, the title song and “God Guide Our Leader’s Hand,” date from 30 October 1961 at Bradley Studio, with Paul Craft on banjo, Junior Huskey on bass and Willie Ackerman on drums. “Voice of My Savior” is older still: a Bradley Studio session of 19 February 1958 with J.D. Crowe on banjo, Gordon Terry on fiddle and Lightnin’ Chance on bass.
On most tracks Martin sings lead and Williams sings tenor; on “Little White Church,” credited to Eugene Wellman, Williams takes the high lead over Martin. Lois Johnson is credited with an added vocal part on several of the 1962 songs. Martin and Williams are named as writers, alone or with others, on eight of the twelve songs, including “Prayer Bells of Heaven,” “Give Me the Roses Now” and “What Would You Give in Exchange”; “Lord, I’m Coming Home” is listed as traditional.
