Three Generations cover

The Carter Family's Three Generations, released on Columbia Records (KC 33084) in 1974, presents three literal generations of the family: "Mother" Maybelle Carter on guitar, autoharp, and vocals; her daughters Helen Carter on accordion and vocals, and Anita Carter on vocals; and Anita's daughter Lorrie Davis on vocals. Note: catalog personnel lists June Carter and Sara Carter—June does not appear on this album, and Sara Carter (Maybelle's original-trio partner) was still alive in 1974 but is not documented as a participant; both entries appear to reflect data errors. The album's deliberate concept—capturing the living continuity of the Carter musical tradition across three distinct family generations—was unusual for its era and gave the record a documentary weight beyond its recordings alone.
