"Together Again," released in 1971 on Rome Records (R 1011), is the reunion album of Don Reno, Red Smiley, and Bill Harrell with the Tennessee Cut-Ups. Red Smiley (Arthur Lee "Red" Smiley) had retired from performing in 1968 due to diabetes-related health problems but rejoined Reno and Harrell in 1969, remaining until his death in January 1972 — making these sessions among his final recordings. The album documents the reunion of one of bluegrass's foundational vocal partnerships: Reno's single-string banjo innovations alongside Smiley's warm, unaffected tenor had defined the Tennessee Cut-Ups' King Records work since the early 1950s. Note: personnel cache lists Bill Monroe, Alan O'Bryant, Butch Robins, James Monroe, James Bryan, and Jerry McCoury — musicians associated with a different album sharing this title (MCA, 1978) — which appears to be a data conflation.
