The Carter Family's Travelin' Minstrel Band, released on Columbia Records (KC 31454) in 1972, is a late-career studio LP by the working quartet of "Mother" Maybelle Carter on guitar and autoharp, June Carter Cash on vocals and autoharp, Helen Carter on accordion and vocals, and Anita Carter on vocals. The title track was a top-fifty country hit in 1972—one of the group's last charting singles—and the record captures the four women in their long-established touring configuration, then closely associated with the Johnny Cash Show apparatus. By 1972 the Carter Sisters had been performing together for more than two decades, and the album documents their well-worn ensemble unity near the end of Maybelle's performing career.
