Treasures Untold (Sugar Hill SH 3780, 1990) is a collaborative album drawing on sessions that paired Doc Watson with Mike Auldridge (dobro), Lou Reid (guitar, vocals), Stuart Duncan (fiddle), Rickie Simpkins (fiddle), and T. Michael Coleman (bass), with tracks also featuring Watson's son Merle Watson (guitar) — sessions predating Merle's 1985 death. Watson's unaccompanied flatpick guitar and clear, unwavering vocal authority anchor every track through a program of country, gospel, and folk standards. The multi-era personnel reflects the album's compilation structure, assembling Watson's musical relationships across different chapters of his career rather than representing a single studio session, and the Sugar Hill production gives these recordings their widest circulation to date.
