Tunes EP Vol. 1 (self-released, 2022) is a five-track extended-play recording from Canadian fiddler Trent Freeman featuring an ensemble drawn from the overlapping circles of Canadian and Pacific Northwest acoustic music. Freeman plays fiddle throughout; Ella Korth plays guitar; John Reischman plays mandolin; Allison de Groot plays banjo; and Alan Mackie holds the bass. The tracks present old-time tunes and original fiddle compositions suited to the acoustic dance-tune format, and the ensemble's shared familiarity — all active in related acoustic communities — gives the session a relaxed, conversational character. The EP served as an early showcase for Freeman's fiddle playing and compositional voice and introduced his work to a wider audience through streaming platforms and the North American acoustic music community.
