Two Highways cover

Two Highways, released by Rounder Records in 1989, is the first album credited to Alison Krauss & Union Station — Krauss's contract required alternating solo records with the band, and Two Highways is the inaugural band-credit release. Krauss was eighteen at the time; the album features Jeff White, Mike Harman, and John Pennell alongside guest Jerry Douglas on dobro, produced by Bill Vorndick. The record drew immediate critical attention and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Bluegrass Album, an early sign of the trajectory Krauss would follow toward becoming the most awarded female artist in Grammy history. The mix of straight bluegrass discipline with the open, melodic phrasing Krauss brought to the genre is already fully formed.
