Voices in Bluegrass, the Osborne Brothers' June 1965 Decca release, is one of the first full-length statements of the band's mature sound after their move to the label and shows the high-trio harmony they had pioneered already operating as their signature. Bobby Osborne's lead is pitched at the top, with Sonny Osborne's banjo and the lower harmony of Benny Birchfield filling beneath — augmented by Nashville session hands Ray Edenton on guitar and Floyd Chance on bass. The program runs from instrumental showpieces like Bluegrass Express and Bugle on the Banjo to standards like Salty Dog Blues and the brothers' more recent country-leaning material. It catches the Osborne sound at the moment its rules were locked in.
