The Gospel Plowboys' When the Crops Are Laid By, released on Morning Glory Music (MGM191101) in November 2019, is the North Carolina bluegrass gospel band's third album and an explicit tribute to two founding members who died before its completion: mandolinist David Murph (2017) and banjoist John Goodson (2019). The 2019 ensemble—led by guitarist and vocalist Michael Jenkins alongside David Brown, Andrew Brown, Kris Miller, and new members on fiddle and banjo—continues the band's devotional bluegrass gospel mission, including Murph's composition "Heavenly Train." Morning Glory Music, launched in 2019 as the all-gospel imprint of Mountain Fever Records in Willis, Virginia, provides the first commercial distribution outside independent channels for the band and gave the Plowboys their widest audience.
