When the Roses Bloom in Dixieland, released in 1994, drew the Osborne Brothers back toward the older sentimental and parlor song repertoire that had fed into early country and bluegrass music from the nineteenth-century popular tradition. Bobby and Sonny Osborne had always been willing to range widely across American song, and this album represents one of their more historically minded excursions. The brothers' vocal chemistry, developed across four decades of performing together, gives even unfamiliar material an air of inevitability. By the 1990s the Osbornes occupied an elder statesman role in the genre while continuing to perform actively.
