Wilma Lee & Stoney Cooper, released by Rounder Records in 1976 (Rounder 0066), was recorded at Nugget Studios in Nashville in May of that year — among the very last sessions Stoney Cooper would make before his death in March 1977. The Coopers had spent three decades as one of the great traditional country husband-and-wife acts, working from West Virginia through the Grand Ole Opry and into Wilma Lee's later bluegrass-focused career. The program leans heavily on Carter Family-style chestnuts (Hills of Roane County, Back Up and Push, My Curley Headed Baby, Give Me Roses While I Live) with the Coopers' daughter Carol Lee, Bob Black, Bill Carver, Joe Stuart, and veteran George McCormick supporting. Mixed in mono, the album catches the duo near the end of a long working life.
