On the record Padilla plays fiddle and guitar and sings, Campbell plays mandolin and sings harmony, and Andal plays guitar, bass, fiddle and banjo; Andal also engineered the sessions and mixed them with Kurt Storey. Of its twenty tracks, seventeen are traditional, among them “Hell Broke Loose in Georgia,” “Farewell Princeton,” “Billy in the Lowground,” “Soldier’s Joy,” “Hunting the Buffalo” and “Katy Hill,” and three are Padilla’s compositions: “Charles the Fifth,” “Midwinter Waltz” and “Horse and Buggy.” Padilla, who learned Texas-style fiddle from her mother, Nancy Padilla, has twice been a national fiddle champion, in 1994 and 2015, and was Kentucky State Fiddle Champion in 2022.
