“Buck’s Run” is a tune written by H.S. “Buck” White, the mandolinist and patriarch of the family band the Whites. He recorded it as an instrumental in 1972 with his group Buck White and the Down Home Folks.
Set in the key of A, the tune is a bluegrass mandolin piece intended to evoke the sound of baying hounds on a chase. It has entered the repertoire as a recognized mandolin and banjo instrumental, picked up by other players and taught in instructional materials.
