“Chapel Hill Deer Stalk” is an original fiddle tune by George Jackson, a fiddler born in New Zealand and later based in Nashville. He recorded it on his 2019 album “Time and Place,” and the tune won that year’s Mike Auldridge Instrumental Composition Contest.
The piece is a contemporary fiddle tune in the bluegrass and new-acoustic idiom, a composition strong enough to be honored in a tune-writing competition and later transcribed for other players to learn. Its title points to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where Jackson recorded the album.
This recording features Jackson himself on fiddle, performing the tune on “Time and Place.”
