Andrew Marlin
Andrew Marlin is a North Carolina-born songwriter and mandolinist who co-leads Watchhouse (formerly Mandolin Orange) with Emily Frantz — one of the most-listened-to acts in modern Americana, known for spare arrangements, sibling-tight harmonies, and Marlin's plainspoken songwriting.
- Native of Warrenton, North Carolina; moved to Chapel Hill in 2008 and met Emily Frantz at a jam in 2009.
- Bought his first guitar at age 14 with money earned working at a Southern States farm store.
- Founded Mandolin Orange in 2009; renamed the duo Watchhouse in April 2021.
- Releases solo instrumental records and produces other roots artists including Rachel Baiman, Mipso, Josh Oliver, and Kate Rhudy.
- Trained in studio engineering under Jerry Brown at Rubber Room Studio in Chapel Hill.
- Has performed at the Ryman Auditorium, Red Rocks, and the Newport Folk Festival.
- Endorses Sullivan Mandolins, Gilchrist Mandolins, and Pre-War Guitars.
